Luc Demortier (The Rockefeller University) Bayesian Statistics from Subjective Quantum Probabilities to Objective Data Analysis ========================================================= In physics, the influence of Bayesian ideas is currently manifesting itself in two areas: the interpretation of quantum probabilities and the analysis of experimental data. After briefly commenting on recent research in quantum information science, this seminar will discuss the application of objective Bayesian techniques to data analysis. In particular we will concentrate on reference analysis, a unified approach to the calculation of objective priors, point and interval estimates, and hypothesis tests. Reference analysis enjoys several features that should make it attractive to physicists: its procedures are very general and always yield proper posterior distributions, they are invariant under parameter transformations, they avoid the so-called marginalization paradoxes, and they yield good frequentist coverage under repeated sampling.
