ATLAS Experiment Design and Early Physics

I will give a general overview of the design of the ATLAS experiment  
and its current status.  Reconstruction algorithms are currently  
being tuned to take advantage of specific strengths of ATLAS.  The  
performance of these algorithms can be parameterized using the early  
LHC data expected in 2008.  "Physics commissioning" using standard  
model processes will be a main focus of early data analysis.
