STATUS OF THE SEARCH FOR GRAVITATIONAL WAVES There is an emerging worldwide network of gravitational wave detectors, including LIGO (Laser Interferometer Gravitational wave Observatory) in the US, GEO600 in Germany, Virgo in Italy, and TAMA and CLIO in Japan. We will describe the status of this network, and review some recent observational results from LIGO in the search for gravitational waves from coalescing compact binary systems, pulsars, GRB and SGR engines, and the big bang.
