THE CERN SOLAR AXION TELESCOPE (CAST) The CERN Axion Solar Telescope (CAST) is a third-generation axion helioscope that has been in operation since 2003. After briefly discussing the theoretical motivation for this project, I will describe in the detail the operation of the experiment, which is built around a LHC prototype magnet. I will conclude with a discussion of recent results and future plans for CAST.
