Search for Direct CP Violation in Hyperon Decays

        Abstract

   The HyperCP experiment (FNAL E871) was designed to search
for CP violation in hyperon decays. We study the distribution 
of the proton from the decay sequence 
Xi- -> Lambda pi-, Lambda -> p pi-,
and of the anti-proton from the charge-conjugate decays. 
Any measured asymmetry between the distributions would result
from direct CP violation in the decays. 
   We report on an analysis of a fraction of the data
yielding a precision of an order of magnitude better 
than the present limit.
